As a part of BAPS UK’s continued Health Awareness Campaign, over 100 BAPS volunteers raised funds and awareness for Diabetes UK at IKEA’s 21st Birthday Sale at Brent Park, Wembley. IKEA, the international home furnishing retailers, has one of its largest UK stores located very close to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden, London, and as part of an on-going pro-community relationship between the two, IKEA allowed volunteers on this special day to collect funds for BAPS’ multifarious charity activities and the national diabetes organisation.
Volunteers collected funds from 9:00am through to 10:00pm, standing at the end of the check-outs helping shoppers pack their bags, take their shopping to their cars as well as handing out Diabetes UK goody bags and balloons. Thousands of shoppers had descended on the sale and genuinely appreciated the BAPS volunteers’ kind and courteous assistance together with the important issues surrounding diabetes. The volunteers spent the entire day jovially helping shoppers, working for Diabetes UK, and even supporting the IKEA staff.
It was another great day for BAPS’ Health Awareness Campaign and community outreach programme.
