Saturday 31 January 2009
National Sponsored Family Walk & Fun Run 2008 was launched on Saturday 31 January 2009 by Mr. Guy Parkes, Head of Corporate Relationships of The Anthony Nolan Trust, at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden, London. Louise Wright, Area Appeals Manager for The Anthony Nolan Trust had also accompanied Mr. Parkes to the launch of this year’s event.
The key figures from the charity were escorted around the Mandir complex before they arrived in the assembly. Mr. Parkes offered his gratitude on behalf of The Anthony Nolan Trust and thoughts for this year’s walk. He was also very appreciative and proud of the partnership between The Anthony Nolan Trust with BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha in the UK.
In his address, Mr Parkes spoke of the devastating effects of leukaemia and highlighted how the support of donors can help to continue their work and provide a solution to those who suffer from the disease. He stressed the importance of getting South Asians in the UK to join the bone marrow donor register and hoped that through the partnership with BAPS they could achieve this aim.
